The Three Sparks That Help Kids Rise

At Phoenix Sparks, we focus on three simple habits that help kids grow confident in a changing world:

  • Curiosity: Helping kids ask questions, explore new ideas, and stay open when things feel unfamiliar.

  • Resilience: Teaching children how to move through challenges, mistakes, and big emotions — and keep going.

  • Reflection: Giving kids tools to pause, process their experiences, and learn from both wins and setbacks.

From the Boardroom to the Playroom

Hi! I’m Yina, a Chinese American mom raising twins across cultures. For years, I worked in corporate strategy and innovation, learning and leveraging tools like growth mindset, brain science, and human-centered design to help leaders and companies thrive.

But when it came to helping my own children navigate their world, I realized something was missing: why do we wait until people are adults to teach these critical life skills?

So I wrote Phoenix Sparks: 10 Women Who Changed China and the World. I wanted my children to see themselves in the stories of women who rose before them. Writing about these trailblazers reminded me that growth isn’t one-and-done. It’s an ongoing journey shaped by curiosity, resilience, and reflection.

That’s why Phoenix Sparks grew from a book into a community. I want to help parents use proven tools like growth mindset in simple, everyday ways, so our kids can build the confidence and skills they need to navigate an ever-changing world across cultures.

I’m so glad you’re here.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Phoenix Sparks is a developmental learning community that equips children with the habits of Curiosity, Resilience, and Reflection. We specialize in supporting multicultural families by translating Growth Mindset research into practical, daily tools that help children navigate a world that is becoming more volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous.

  • At Phoenix Sparks, we serve the "In-Betweeners"—children and families who don't fit into a single cultural box. Our platform is built for:

    • The Multicultural Family: Parents navigating the tension between traditional heritage and modern, local expectations.

    • The Adaptive Child: We help children who struggle with the "perfectionism trap" or feel like "outsiders" develop a stable, internal sense of belonging.

    • The Support System: We empower psychology professionals and school counselors with actionable tools to help students bridge the gap between home and school identities.

  • We move beyond abstract encouragement to provide children with a stable, internal architecture based on three core principles: Curiosity, Resilience, and Reflection. Our methodology helps children transform the cognitive pressure of "getting it right" into a lifelong habit of learning. By focusing on habit formation and executive functioning skills, we empower kids to:

    • Embrace Curiosity: View cultural shifts as opportunities for discovery rather than risks of failure.

    • Build Resilience: Develop the emotional regulation needed to move between different social rules and value systems.

    • Practice Reflection: Form a stable sense of self that remains consistent even when external environments change.

Through our books, resources, and community support, we help transform the "perfectionism trap" into a journey of self-discovery and adaptability.
